Care Continuum Alliance Adds Four Population Health Management Leaders to Board

SAN FRANCISCO—Care Continuum Alliance members today approved four new Board of Directors members, including a past-president of the 200-member trade association for wellness, prevention and care management and top executives with OptumHealth, Pfizer and Walgreen Co.

Members approved the Board appointments Sept. 9 during a business meeting here, at the Care Continuum Alliance annual meeting, The Forum 11. Members also approved as Chair-Elect Frederic S. Goldstein, Chief Government Affairs and New Technologies Officer, US Preventive Medicine.

New Board members include:

  • Sam Meckey, Chief Operating Officer, Care Management and Advocacy, OptumHealth—Meckey oversees, directs and expands OptumHealth's case management, disease management, NurseLine and Healthcare Decision Support businesses, which offer employers and consumers access to high-quality, cost-effective clinical management for employees.

  • Cheryl Pegus, MD, MPH, Chief Medical Officer, Walgreens—Dr. Pegus is responsible for Walgreens' clinical affairs, outcomes and analytics, employee health and wellness and clinical sales team. She has more than 18 years' clinical practice and industry experience.

  • Christobel Selecky, MA, Principal, Population Healthcare Strategies—Selecky facilitates the transition of health care organizations - culturally, clinically and operationally - toward accountable care capability. She has 30 years' experience in managed care and population health improvement and is a former Care Continuum Alliance president and Board chair.

  • Saira Sultan, JD, Senior Director, Federal Government Relations, Pfizer—Sultan brings a wealth of experience from her work in the device and pharmaceutical industries, as well as work on Capital Hill representing companies and a non-profit provider organization on a variety of issues, including Medicare and Medicaid.

In addition to Goldstein, members approved a second Executive Committee position: Secretary Vicki Shepard, MSW, ACSW, MPA, Senior Vice President, Strategic and Government Relations, Healthways. Board members approved for second, three-year terms included Shepard and Joseph C. Kvedar, MD, Director, Center for Connected Health, Partners HealthCare System, Inc.

The Care Continuum Alliance recognized the valuable contributions of departing Board members Gordon Norman, MD, MBA, Chief Innovations Officer, Alere, and immediate past-Board Chair of the Care Continuum Alliance; Jerry Vaccaro, MD, President and COO, APS Healthcare; Dee W. Edington, PhD, University of Michigan; and Christopher Vojta, MD, Ingenix.
